1. Purpose and Scope
This Pricing Policy explains how prices, service fees, commissions, taxes, payments, and settlements are calculated, displayed, collected, and distributed on the Monkstays marketplace.
Monkstays operates as a digital marketplace intermediary.
Under this structure:
- Hosts are the independent suppliers of accommodation, retreats, or related services.
- Monkstays acts solely as a limited payment collection agent on behalf of Hosts.
- Monkstays provides marketplace technology, booking facilitation, and payment processing services.
- Hosts remain responsible for determining and complying with their own tax and regulatory obligations.
This Pricing Policy forms an integral part of the Monkstays Terms of Service, Host Terms of Service, and Guest Terms of Service.
By creating an account, listing accommodations or experiences, or confirming a booking, you agree to the pricing and payment structure described herein.
2. Role of Monkstays as Marketplace Intermediary
Monkstays:
- Does not own, operate, manage, or control the accommodations or experiences listed on the platform.
- Does not act as the supplier of accommodation or retreat services.
- Collects payments from Guests solely as a limited payment collection agent for Hosts.
- Deducts applicable service fees and commissions.
- Settles Host earnings in accordance with this Policy and the applicable Terms of Service.

3. Display of Prices and Currencies
3.1 Currency Display
Prices may be displayed in the Guest’s selected currency (and, where enabled, may be auto-selected based on location) for convenience and transparency.
3.2 Processing Currency
Payments are processed in:
- Canadian Dollars (CAD) for properties or events located in Canada;
- United States Dollars (USD) for properties or events located outside Canada, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
3.3 Exchange Rates
Displayed currency conversions are indicative only.
Final charged amounts may vary due to:
- Foreign exchange rates;
- Cross-border payment fees;
- Financial institution or card issuer charges.
Monkstays does not control third-party exchange rates or banking fees.
4. Guest-Facing Charges
4.1 Booking Subtotal
The Booking Subtotal is the base price determined solely by the Host and excludes:
- Applicable taxes;
- Guest Service Fee;
- Any applicable taxes on Platform fees.
Monkstays does not set accommodation prices.
4.2 Guest Service Fee
Unless otherwise disclosed at checkout, Monkstays charges a Guest Service Fee of up to ten percent (10%) of the Booking Subtotal.
The exact amount is displayed at checkout prior to confirmation.
This fee supports:
- Platform operations;
- Customer support;
- Payment processing;
- Security infrastructure;
- Marketplace development.
If Monkstays is registered for GST/HST, QST, VAT, or similar taxes, such taxes may apply to the Guest Service Fee.
4.3 Taxes on Accommodation
Applicable lodging, sales, consumption, or value-added taxes may include:
- GST/HST (Canada)
- QST (Québec)
- Provincial Sales Tax (PST)
- Lodging or occupancy taxes
- State or municipal accommodation taxes
- Value Added Tax (VAT)
- Any similar regime
Tax applicability depends on the Host’s legal and tax registration status.
Monkstays may collect accommodation-related taxes on behalf of the Host and transfer such amounts to the Host unless legally required to remit them directly.
Hosts remain solely responsible for:
- Tax registration;
- Tax classification (including small supplier or exempt status);
- Remittance to tax authorities.
4.4 Donation-Based Retreats or Programs
Where a retreat or program is described as donation-based:
- If payment is mandatory, it may constitute taxable consideration under applicable law.
- If donation is voluntary and not required for participation, different tax treatment may apply.
Monkstays relies on Host declarations regarding the classification of such payments.
4.5 Total Amount Charged
The total amount charged to the Guest may include:
- Booking Subtotal;
- Applicable accommodation taxes;
- Guest Service Fee;
- Taxes on Platform service fees (if applicable).
Payment is collected at booking confirmation through authorised payment providers.
5. Host Commission Structure
5.1 Standard Commission
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, Monkstays retains a commission equal to five percent (5%) of the Booking Subtotal.
The commission:
- Is calculated before taxes;
- Is deducted from Host settlement;
- Is separate from the Guest Service Fee.
If Monkstays is registered for applicable taxes, such taxes may apply to the commission.
5.2 Optional Programs
Monkstays may offer optional participation programs, marketing tiers, or protection programs.
Participation:
- Does not guarantee booking volume or visibility;
- May involve additional fees;
- Is governed by separate terms where applicable.
No program constitutes insurance coverage unless expressly stated.
6. Payment Processing and Settlement
6.1 Limited Payment Collection Agency
Monkstays collects Guest payments solely as a limited payment collection agent for the Host.
Collection of funds does not transfer supplier or tax liability to Monkstays unless required by law.
6.2 Monthly Settlement Cycle
Host earnings are accumulated and settled on or around the 5th calendar day of each month.
Each settlement includes bookings:
- Completed during the prior calendar month;
- Cleared at least forty-eight (48) hours after Guest checkout;
- Not subject to dispute, chargeback, or cancellation.
6.3 Minimum Payout Threshold
Settlement occurs only when the Host’s cleared balance equals or exceeds:
- $100 CAD; or
- $100 USD (depending on listing currency).
Balances below the threshold carry forward.
6.4 Grouped or Event-Based Settlements
For retreats, pilgrimages, or time-bound spiritual events, Monkstays may apply a grouped settlement approach.
In such cases:
- Guest payments may be grouped;
- Settlement may occur after event completion;
- A consolidated payout may be issued once the minimum threshold is reached.
This structure simplifies accounting and does not alter total amounts payable.
7. Adjustments, Chargebacks, and Withholding
Monkstays may:
- Withhold or deduct amounts related to disputes, refunds, chargebacks, fraud investigations, or regulatory requirements;
- Offset such amounts against current or future settlements;
- Delay payouts where necessary to mitigate risk.
Hosts remain responsible for chargebacks related to their bookings unless otherwise required by law.
8. Modification of Fees and Pricing Structure
Monkstays reserves the right to:
- Modify the Guest Service Fee percentage or structure;
- Modify the Host Commission percentage or structure;
- Introduce new service-related fees;
- Modify settlement timing or payout thresholds;
- Adjust pricing display formats;
- Restructure participation tiers or optional programs;
without requiring prior authorisation from Hosts or Guests.
Monkstays will provide reasonable notice of material changes through the Platform or by email.
Changes apply only to bookings confirmed after the effective date of the modification and do not affect previously confirmed bookings.
Monkstays may modify fees or structures where required due to:
- Changes in law or taxation;
- Regulatory requirements;
- Payment processing costs;
- Fraud prevention measures;
- Operational restructuring.
Continued use of the Platform after notice constitutes acceptance of the revised structure.
9. International Compliance
Hosts located outside Canada are solely responsible for complying with all local licensing, accommodation, consumer protection, and tax regulations applicable in their jurisdiction.
Nothing in this Policy overrides mandatory statutory obligations in any jurisdiction.
10. Inquiries and Disputes
Any inquiry regarding pricing, commissions, or payouts must be submitted within fourteen (14) days following Guest checkout by contacting:

11. Governing Law
This Pricing Policy is governed by the laws of the Province of Québec and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and subject to any mandatory consumer or tax laws that apply in the jurisdiction of the Host or Guest.
